StateoftheART is delighted to announce the upcoming group exhibition titled Heaven and Earth, featuring the works of four remarkable female artists: Kristen McClarty, Catherine Ocholla, Laurel Holmes, and Karen Wykerd. This captivating exhibition of paintings and printmaking will be on display from 04 - 25 November 2023, at 50 Buitenkant Street in Cape Town.

On 24 June 2023, StateoftheART hosted the opening reception of Joanna Lee Miller's debut solo exhibition ' Here I Find' featuring landscape paintings created on site around the Cape Peninsula.

Landscape painter Joanna Lee Miller will present her debut solo exhibition 'Here I Find' at StateoftheART Gallery in Cape Town from 24 June until 15 July.

On Saturday 25 February 2023, StateoftheART hosted the opening reception of the group exhibition 'TIME & TIDE (wait for no man)', featuring new work by 7 South African artists.

Read Sylvester Zanoxolo Mqeku's opening address at his debut solo exhibition 'Birth of the Alter Natural' at StateoftheART on 3 December 2022. Mqeku's unique sand cast ceramic sculptures are the result of his Master dissertation research and pose questions about humankind's existence and future on Earth.

On 15 October 2022, the artists and curators of FABRICATION hosted a Finissage event, inviting visitors to take part in an interactive session of stitching on fabric while chatting with the artists about their artwork on show.

On Saturday 20 February, we hosted the opening event of 'INTIMACY' by Lisette Forsyth. The artist created a small, intimate space to relax and join her in an intimate conversation.

Mother and son due Pascale and Claude Chandler opened their joint exhibition 'Liminal Timeline' on 12 February 2020 at StateoftheART Gallery in Cape Town.

On Saturday 9 November, we learnt about Grace Kotze's solo exhibition 'Wonderland' in a walkabout with artist.

On 3 October we opened 'SÕLUS HYDRO' - a solo exhibition of paintings by Port Elizabeth based artist Joanne Reen.

An exciting evening to celebrate the second edition of the StateoftheART Gallery Award and the top ten Finalists with work on show. We also announced the 2019 winner - Balekane Legoabe.

On Wednesday 12 June we opened 'Uncharted Territory' - the debut solo exhibition by Karen Wykerd featuring her paintings and embroideries.

On 7 March 2019 we opened NEXUS : a solo exhibition of new portrait paintings by Durban-based artist Corné Eksteen.

On 7 June as part of First Thursdays, we opened SUPER NATURE, a group exhibition of paintings by Catherine Ocholla, Karen Wykerd and Joanne Reen. Howling Media took some photos of the event.

On 3 May we opened 'Immure' - a solo exhibition by Minien Hattingh.

This week the East City will be abuzz with many noteworthy art exhibitions, live music and fine food offerings.

On 1 March 2018, StateoftheART opened the solo exhibition of Lizelle Kruger, entitled 'Cape Town Memoirs and Dangerous Liaisons'. With opening speeches by C T Gilfellan and Simon Norton.

Elinor Spears performed at the exhibition opening of The Marks We Make on 25 January, improvising a musical response to the artworks on show.

Cape Town is set to become the "hottest art capital in the Southern Hemisphere in 2017" according to Bloomberg - and we're thrilled that StateoftheART has been included in their list of favourite galleries!

For our October First Thursdays on 6 October we opened LIFE.BODY.TIME, a group exhibition of work by Bettie Coetzee-Lambrecht, Chris Denovan, Michaela Rinaldi, Jodi Hugo, Janna Prinsloo and James de Villiers.

On 1 September we opened a solo exhibition of new paintings by Mila Posthumus, entitled PORTRAIT which opened on Thursday, 1st of September in conjunction with the First Thursdays event.

For our August First Thursdays on 4 August we opened ANIMALIUM MAGICIS - a truly enchanting exhibition by Sally Rumball. The exhibition runs until 20 August.

On June's First Thursdays we opened our first group exhibition for the year, 'Beneath the Skin'. Participating artists: Claude Chandler, Corné Eksteen, Ntobeko Mjijwa, Kendall-Leigh Nash, Gary Frier, Damien Schumann, Sarah Walmsley, and Andrew Ntshabele.

Our May exhibition is a solo exhibition by Zaan Claassens, "Walking on Water". The art of Zaan Claassens is a celebration of life. In her exhibition, WALKING ON WATER, her primary focus is on water: what happens on its surface, how it varies, how light plays on it, how its moods change.

On 7 April 2016 we opened ORGANISM, the second solo exhibition of Janet Botes. Showing recent work inspired by the scientific-biological nature, but also the spiritual symbolism, of an organism.

Every first Thursday of the month participating galleries in Cape Town stay open until late so people can walk the galleries after work. We took some photographs before things became super busy...
