StateoftheART Transitions from 50 Buitenkant Street Showroom

After nearly a decade at 50 Buitenkant Street in Cape Town, StateoftheART Gallery will be closing its current physical showroom following the recent sale of the building from which the gallery has operated since 2017. While this marks the end of an important chapter for the gallery, it also signals the beginning of an exciting new phase for the business.

StateoftheART’s online platform will continue operating fully and uninterrupted, with collectors still able to discover and acquire contemporary South African art through the gallery’s established ecommerce website. Over the years, StateoftheART has evolved into one of South Africa’s leading online contemporary art destinations, connecting collectors locally and internationally with a carefully curated selection of original artworks.

Founder Jennifer Reynolds says the transition reflects the gallery’s ongoing evolution:

“While we are naturally sad to say goodbye to our Buitenkant Street space after so many years, the strength of StateoftheART has always extended far beyond four walls. Our online platform continues to thrive, allowing us to connect collectors with exceptional contemporary art wherever they are. This transition also creates an opportunity to thoughtfully reimagine what the next chapter of the gallery can become.”

The gallery will continue representing its artists as before, making their exceptional pieces avialable through the website and private viewing opportunities. Clients can also continue to expect the personalised service and curatorial guidance that have become synonymous with the StateoftheART experience.

Plans are already underway for a new physical showroom space, with further announcements to follow in due course.

StateoftheART extends sincere gratitude to the artists, collectors, and supporters who have contributed to the success and spirit of the Buitenkant Street gallery over the years.
The gallery looks forward to welcoming visitors into a new space in the future while continuing to bring contemporary South African art into homes and collections across the country and internationally through its online platform.

For enquiries, artwork viewings, or assistance with collecting art online, visitors are encouraged to continue exploring the gallery through the StateoftheART website.
