Artwork Description
There is a wonderful sense of movement in 'Dante' by Pascale Chandler. Horse and rider emerge from loose washes of ink and layered mixed media, with Chandler allowing areas of the image to dissolve almost completely into the white of the paper. Nothing feels overworked: a line, stain or pool of colour is often enough to suggest the turn of the horse’s body or the rider in the saddle.
Soft sage green, earthy brown and muted pink sit alongside darker, more decisive marks, giving the work both delicacy and energy. The fluid surface of Yupo paper allows the ink to pool, run and resist in unpredictable ways, particularly well suited to Chandler’s expressive handling of the equestrian figure.
Dante is an original ink and mixed media work on Yupo paper, measuring 60 × 42 cm unframed, and is available for R4,850.
