Joanna Lee Miller is a classically trained Cape Town-based landscape painter who creates her oil paintings en plein air – outdoors in nature.
Joanna’s immersive landscape paintings explore the power of natural beauty – what a place can mean to us, and give to us. Each artwork is both a celebration of beauty and an invitation to connect deeply to beauty through place. When we feel a deep sense of connection, we may feel like we lose ourselves for a moment, but actually, we find ourselves. She describes her style as expressive, bold and dynamic – exactly what is required to capture the fast-changing light and quickly moving clouds when painting outdoors. There is no time to question or doubt, giving Joanna’s paintings a sense of immediacy and movement, while simultaneously capturing the ethereal, ever-present calm of nature.

At the opening of Here I Find (24 June, 11am-2pm), all senses will be embraced. Joanna has designed the opening to recreate the experiences she has while painting outdoors. Visitors are also invited to visit the places where Joanna created her paintings – maps with each painting’s creation location will be available at the gallery. Opening address by Beth Lowe.
