Artwork Description
In Cadence, Pascale Chandler captures the particular relationship between horse and rider through gesture rather than precise detail. The rider sits almost in silhouette above the horse, while the animal itself is built from loose passages of ink, warm ochre, rust, soft pink and grey.
There is a lovely looseness to the work. Marks overlap, colours bleed and parts of the horse seem to disappear into the untouched paper before coming back into focus. Working on Yupo allows Chandler to move the ink freely across the surface, giving Cadence a sense of spontaneity that suits its title: the rhythm of movement is felt as much as it is seen.
An original ink and mixed media work on Yupo paper, Cadence measures 42 × 60 cm unframed and is available for R4,850.
