Artwork Description
There is an unmistakable sense of warmth in Descent Through Light. Layers of luminous coral, crimson and soft apricot tones seem to glow from within, creating a work that feels both energetic and quietly meditative. As with all of Karla Nixon's work, the closer you look, the more the artist's painstaking process begins to reveal itself.
Each individual fragment started as a sheet of archival paper, hand-painted by Nixon before being torn by hand and carefully layered to build the final composition. The raised surface catches changing light throughout the day, giving the artwork remarkable depth and a tactile quality that photographs can only begin to suggest.
Rather than depicting a recognisable landscape, Descent Through Light invites a more personal response. It might evoke the warmth of late afternoon sunlight, shifting skies or the slow unfolding of colour found in nature. Nixon leaves space for each collector to discover their own connection with the work.
