Artwork Description
The Outeniqua and Helderberg mountain ranges unfold in layer upon layer across the unusually wide format of 'My Mountains' by Janet Botes. Dark, sharply defined peaks anchor the foreground, while softer silhouettes recede into the distance beneath a pale green sky. The panoramic composition gives the landscape an expansive rhythm, as though the view continues far beyond the edges of the paper.
Through digital collage, Botes combines photographic detail with translucent colour and painterly texture. Deep navy, smoky violet and muted mauve gradually soften into misty blue-green tones, creating depth without losing the dreamlike quality of the scene. The narrow format keeps the focus firmly on the shifting profile of the mountains.
My Mountains is an archival pigment print on paper measuring 120 × 25 cm and is sold unframed. Edition 3 of a limited edition of 5, it is available to order for R12,000, with a two-week lead time.
