Artwork Description

Layer upon layer of overlapping scales forms the tightly curled body of a Temminck’s pangolin. Its sweeping tail follows the curve of the circular composition, while carefully worked contrasts of light and dark reveal the intricate armour-like texture of the animal.

Andie Rodwell’s hard-ground etching technique allows for both precise detail and expressive variation. Fine directional marks give each scale its individual character, yet together they create a beautifully ordered pattern. The monochrome image is surrounded by generous white space, giving the work a clean, contemporary presence while keeping attention on the pangolin’s remarkable natural form.

Temminck’s Pangolin I is an original limited-edition etching on paper, numbered 12/20. Presented in a simple black frame, it measures 45 x 54 cm framed and is priced at R6,750.
