Artwork Description
A silver bowl overflowing with flowers takes centre stage in Anachronism XVIII by Corné Eksteen. Against the near-black background, pinks, reds and brilliant white push forward, while the reflective vessel anchors the arrangement on a warm wooden surface.
Look a little longer and the familiar still life begins to shift. Eksteen breaks the image into wavering, almost disrupted bands of colour, as though the painting is slipping in and out of focus. The traditional subject remains recognisable, but the way we see it feels unmistakably contemporary. That tension between old and new makes Anachronism XVIII an interesting choice for collectors drawn to contemporary floral art and still life painting without wanting something conventionally decorative.
Painted in oil on stretched canvas, this original South African still life painting measures 50 × 50 cm and is sold unframed for R17,500.
