A tiny adventurer sets out on an unlikely voyage in this wonderfully playful bronze sculpture by Grace Kotze. Perched aboard a familiar yellow plastic bath duck, the wide-eyed Kewpie doll stretches one arm into the unknown, giving the small work a delightful feeling of movement and possibility.
Cast in bronze, the childhood toy is transformed into something enduring. A richly mottled verdigris patina moves across the surface in shades of green and warm bronze, highlighting the doll’s rounded cheeks, the duck’s open beak and the charming details of its wings.
Measuring just 9.7 × 9 × 9 cm, Voyage is an intimate sculpture filled with humour, nostalgia and character. Edition 1 of 100, it is available for R8,000.
