Kwaaitjie is a stoic figure with plenty of grit and attitude. This work is about having the determination and staying power to get through challenges and “keep it together”.
Kwaaitjie’s tough demeanor embodies the messy human experience of negotiating a delicate balance between strength and fragility, resilience and vulnerability. Both masculine and feminine, this sculpture speaks to the inner turmoil and unexpressed emotions embedded in the human condition. It is an unstoppable force with deep reserves of perseverance.
This fiercely independent, stoical character pays tribute to those who anchor our families and communities. The ones who defend, protect and care for others unfailingly.
This sculpture represents those that carry more than their fair share of responsibility in recognition of their deep reserves of perseverance.
