Artwork Description

Brightly coloured bathing huts form the backdrop to an everyday scene at St James beach. Three women pause beside the wooden walkways, bringing a relaxed human presence to the bold arrangement of red, blue, yellow and green.

Kitty Dörje balances strong blocks of colour with energetic black linework, using repeated patterns to describe the timber railings, weathered huts and textured ground. The hand-pulled silkscreen process gives the scene an immediate, graphic quality, while the figures and closely observed details retain the warmth of a moment drawn from daily life on the Cape Peninsula.

St James Beach Doing Things! is an original silkscreen print on paper, measuring 50 x 50 cm unframed. This impression is numbered 13/25 e.v. (edition variable). Because every impression is pulled by hand, subtle differences in colour and ink application make each print in the edition slightly individual.
