Inspired by the Klein River in the Overberg, Carried By Water by Laurel Holmes captures the restless beauty of water in motion. The surface is painted in deep, muddy greens, its currents and reflections creating a rich tangle of marks that seems to shift the longer you look.
Among the greens, small coral-red leaves float across the water, bright fragments caught by the current. They give the painting its rhythm and its title: a quiet reminder of the way a river gathers things up and carries them onwards.
