Artwork Description
Bold areas of turquoise, lime green and yellow move across the surface of Backyard #3, interrupted by passages of peach, grey and deep blue-black. Tanja Truscott builds the composition through overlapping brushstrokes, drips, looping lines and partially obscured forms, allowing each layer to remain visible within the finished painting.
The dark vertical mass on the left anchors the work, while the lighter, more open areas create movement across the canvas. Although the title offers a familiar point of reference, the scene remains deliberately unresolved, leaving space for individual associations and discoveries. Measuring 90 × 112 cm, this oil painting has the scale and visual presence to hold a room, while its many smaller details reward close viewing. Backyard #3 is priced at R30,000.
