Artwork Description
A tall yellow-flowering plant grows across an aged 1860 page of The Cape of Good Hope Government Gazette. Fine stems and small blooms rise from a dense tangle of dark leaves, rendered in olive green, charcoal, blue-grey and flashes of yellow.
The title Invasive Alien acquires an added edge against the Gazette’s formal proclamation concerning the introduction of people into the colony. Forsyth allows the plant to interrupt both the imposing masthead and the dense legal text beneath it, bringing together ideas of classification, belonging and control without losing the immediacy of the botanical image.
This limited-edition giclée print reproduces the layered original artwork on paper, including the warm aged tones and irregular edges of the historical document. Numbered 2 from an edition of 5, it measures 30 x 42 cm unframed.
