Artwork Description
Four delicate leaves, each at a different stage of decay, are arranged side by side in this beautifully detailed relief sculpture by South African artist Jo Roets. Look closely and you'll see the tiny holes, uneven edges and intricate veins that make each leaf so individual.
Working with self-drying natural stone clay, Jo recreates the fragile textures of leaves with remarkable precision. The fourth leaf is particularly lovely, its lace-like structure revealing just how much of the original form has disappeared. Rather than presenting nature as perfect and untouched, 'Leaf #7' celebrates the beauty found in its gradual transformation.
The all-white composition allows the textures to take centre stage, with soft shadows changing as the light moves across the work. Presented in a natural wood box frame, this original botanical artwork has a quiet elegance that would sit comfortably in a contemporary interior, either on its own or alongside other works from Jo's collection.
