Artwork Description
A small stand of acacia trees stretches across the paper in "Old Lore I" by Laurel Holmes, each one beautifully defined through the fine lines of drypoint etching. The trees lean towards one another, their branches almost touching, while the generous white space around them gives the composition a lovely sense of quiet.
There is something familiar about these trees, the kind you might pass on a country road and recognise each time you return. Holmes captures their individual shapes without losing the feeling that they belong together. The simplicity of the black-and-white image makes it particularly appealing for a home where art is chosen for its detail and character rather than its size.
This is edition 7 of just 12, measuring 49 × 35 cm, available unframed for R3,500.
