Artwork Description
"In keeping with the exploration of vibration in my work, this piece, as the title suggests, is related to sound. A tremolo is the rapid repetition of a sound or a vibrating effect that is produced by certain musical instruments and the human voice."
Colour, movement and distortion converge in Tremolo, a striking contemporary painting by Corné Eksteen that blurs the boundaries between abstraction and representation. Beneath the rippling bands of colour, a relaxed figure wearing a peaked cap emerges from the surface of a swimming pool, appearing simultaneously present and obscured. Seen through layers of reflected light and moving water, the scene shifts between recognition and abstraction, inviting viewers to consider the fluid nature of perception.
Drawing on the visual language of digital interference, reflection and optical distortion, Eksteen transforms a familiar leisure moment into something immersive and unexpected. Vibrant oranges, cool blues and luminous whites ripple across the canvas, creating a dynamic rhythm that mimics the movement of water itself. Both playful and sophisticated, the painting celebrates the beauty of everyday experiences while exploring how memory and observation are shaped by light, motion and time.
