Artist notes:
When I paint an astronaut, I try to put into visual language the concept of “Other Worldly.” The idea of an experience, or a worldview, or a paradigm, or a culture, or a new world or dimension, so foreign and strange to you, that it is like becoming an astronaut and visiting a different planet, or exploring space. To learn a completely different way of being.
And then in my paintings this image is then juxtaposed with something very different. Two vastly different worlds meet. Two different realms collide, or overlap. And this changes us. This creates a deep impact. Or rather, it has the potential to take our lives on a completely different trajectory. But, if you choose to ignore that experience, you can carry on with life as usual and an opportunity for change and expansion is passed by.
This image of the interaction between a camel and a pink astronaut speaks of such an encounter. Will they interact? Will they learn from each other? Will they start to love the other’s world? Will they allow this encounter to completely change them?
