      • My work examines the human form, notions of the self and the dualism of absence and presence. These themes are communicated through small scale figurative sculptures of singular figures as well as pairings of figures. The singular figures aim to convey the relationship between absence and presence, which is further emphasised by the mediums in which they are created. Through the pairings of figures I examine the physical dialogues which exist when two bodies interact, as well as the dualisms that may be expressed/ embodied through these dialogues.
I have further attempted to draw attention to the disconnectedness that exists between the pairs engaging not with each other; but rather with their cell phones, and in this way I have commented on the technologically charged lifestyles led by the people that I reference (including myself). There is also an element within the work which serves as a commentary the ways in which we can be physically present and yet absent through technology and physically absent and yet present through communication technology.
I create my figures primarily in bronze and cast glass, and also in resin. Through the compositional merging of two vastly opposing mediums in the pairs of figures, I create a singular artwork which communicates a physical dialogue between the two figures. I am fascinated by the clumsiness of the unexpectedly observed, and the gracefulness and poise that can be found in the most mundane of poses.
