Many organisms have protective characteristics that keep them from falling prey. Acacia trees usually grow in dry or semi-desert areas where there are not a lot of foliage for animals to eat. The thorns make it more difficult for animals to get to all the leaves so trees aren't stripped completely bare by grazing antelope and giraffes. As humans our bodies have protective characteristics too, including our skin, our ribcage protecting our organs and also our immune system. This sculpture is symbolic of our little fighters in our body, protecting us from bacteria and viruses.
