Artist Description

The impact that our consumerist society has on our planet is an issue that remains close to my heart, and it is one that cannot be ignored. The plastic bag is the ubiquitous feature of all polluted landscapes and so provides a fitting symbol for the litter that is consuming us. Plastic bags can take up to 1000 years to degrade and these delicate and fragile looking objects are responsible for the deaths of millions of creatures. Once an animal ingests a plastic bag and dies, the bag is released back into the environment to kill again, yet we use over 1 trillion Plastic Bags each year world wide.

This is a series of monotypes, made using a plastic bag as the matrix. By doing so, I have 'recycled' the bag. It is through recycling and reusing plastic in general, that we may begin to reverse the damage that we as a species has inflicted on the planet.

Need to know: this original artwork requires framing behind glass.
