Artwork Description
A generous arrangement of white lilies and eucalyptus spills from a glass vase in Consider The Lilies, an original mixed media painting by South African artist Claudia Treagus.
There's a lovely looseness to Claudia's painting. The flowers are built up in confident strokes of white, soft blue and green, while the eucalyptus branches trail down the left side of the canvas, giving the arrangement an informal, freshly gathered feel. Behind the flowers, a glimpse of a mauve and plum-coloured interior adds an unexpected splash of colour.
Look closely and you'll discover the different marks and textures that Claudia has worked into the surface. Some areas are thick with paint, others are lightly suggested, allowing the eye to fill in the details. It's this balance between careful observation and expressive brushwork that makes the painting so appealing.
At 80 × 110 cm, Consider The Lilies is a substantial floral still life that would look wonderful above a sideboard, in a dining room or as a focal point in a contemporary living space. The combination of soft neutrals, fresh greens and muted pinks makes it particularly easy to live with.
For collectors who enjoy original botanical art but prefer something a little less formal than a traditional flower painting, Claudia's interpretation has plenty to offer.
