StateoftheART is an online-first contemporary art gallery specialising in exceptional South African art. Based in Stanford, Western Cape, we offer a carefully curated selection of original works by emerging and established contemporary South African artists.
Since 2010, we have connected collectors around the world with distinctive artworks they can discover and buy online with confidence. Our extensive, handpicked inventory is available through our online gallery and atelier, with secure worldwide shipping.
Stanford Salon & Stockroom
While StateoftheART operates primarily as an online gallery, collectors can also experience a selection of works in person in Stanford.
Our Stanford Salon offers an intimate alternative to the traditional white-cube gallery. Hosted in the contemporary riverside home of owner and curator Jennifer Reynolds, the Salon presents exhibitions and collector events in a setting overlooking the Klein River. Here, visitors can see contemporary South African art as it is meant to be lived with and imagine how each piece might enrich their own space. A carefully chosen selection of artworks from our extensive inventory is available to view by appointment from the Stanford Stockroom, featuring pieces by acclaimed artist Lisette Forsyth, among others.
Together, the Stanford Salon and Stanford Stockroom combine the convenience of an online art gallery with the tactile experience of viewing art in person.

About The Founder
Jennifer Reynolds – Owner & Curator
Jennifer has spent a lifetime in love with art and is passionate about helping others discover that same connection. Before founding StateoftheART, she built a career in the financial markets and technology sectors, including 18 years with news and information vendor Reuters in South Africa and Europe.
Ready for a new challenge, Jennifer launched StateoftheART online in 2010, combining her professional experience with her commitment to contemporary South African art. Over the years, she has developed close relationships with many of the most exciting artists working in South Africa today.
