    • Artist Statement
      • Capturing ever evolving emotions and the transitory nuances of everyday life is my chosen way to communicate. I am fascinated by the myriad ways we connect with each other, connecting through creating images is enormously satisfying for me. I see every new work as an experiment and try to find new ways of laying down paint in order to express my intuitive feelings.

    • Interview
      • Which new trends or South African artists do you find inspiring at the moment?
I am inspired by the immense scope of the art displayed in galleries now, creative photography, digital art, previously loved scrap turned into sculptures of merit….laser cut designs, all intriguing to the senses and creating a freedom to create authentic work.

Which South African deceased artist do you most admire and why?
Judith Mason, I marvel at her sensitive draughtmanship, brave images and her willingness to find such meaningful and personal symbols and execute them in such a technically brilliant manner.

Which exhibition that you have visited made the greatest impact on you and why?

Too many to find just one….so many images excite my soul!

Where do you get your inspiration for your work?

I get inspired by words, dreams drifting in my thoughts, colours impacting my mood,
the desire to suddenly capture a half forgotten memory..

Do you have any rituals or habits involving your art-making that you can tell us about?
I like to have my paints laid out where I can see and reach then easily and not have my train of thought interrupted by not being able to find what I need.  I am a bit of a neat freak in my studio….

What do you like most about being an artist?
I love the freedom it creates to allow my mind to see things differently every day and bring into being something tangible that did not exist before.

How do you handle bad days when you experience artist's block?
I go back to drawing, usually in charcoal, until I feel ready to move back into paint.

What is your greatest achievement as an artist to date?
Getting up every day and believing I can improve on the day before!

Do you feel that you want to make a difference to the world or in people's lives? If yes, how?
Yes, I believe art can help us know and understand ourselves more comprehensively and improve the quality of our lives. Encouraging the use of images can unlock new ways of seeing and solving difficulties in a healing and positive way.

What are your plans for the coming year?
To create as prolifically and authentically as possible and have a more cohesive a body of work available.
