The title is derived from "Khoehoon" meaning river of wild olives.
The subject matter in this work offers a snapshot, a moment that is caught, depicting migrant labourers, farm workers and mineworkers; subject matter that is relevant to the artist growing up on a farm, observing the ebb and flow of the rural workforce.
The artist's current series of work layers oil paint onto translucent handmade paper into which she has embedded vintage maps and in some cases plants. The alchemical process of mixing media fascinates her, and here the map within the paper combines with the oil paint to produce images of great depth and beauty. Each painting is achieved through a meditative, creative process. Each mark that is made is reflected upon.
This original artwork requires framing behind glass.
