Artist Description

"Sometimes a view strikes me, and I know one day I have to go back and paint it. I was leaving Cape Point Nature Reserve on a beautiful evening some months ago, and I saw this view of the mountains receding into the distance as they approached Scarborough and Kommetjie. I wasn't able to paint at that moment, I can't remember why, but it was logged in my mind as a place to paint again one day. I like having "logged places" in my mind, because the night before what I know will be a beautiful day, it helps to give me direction when I'm planning where to set out to. Even though I had seen the view in the evening, I decided to try the view in the morning and see what it was like. As soon as I arrived, I knew... Yes, this view is special. I knew it was going to be a full day of painting, and starting with this study gave me energy and excitement that stayed with me throughout the day."
