StateoftheART is the brainchild of Jennifer Reynolds. Before founding the gallery, Jennifer's career spanned the financial markets and technology sectors, which included 18 years with news and information vendor Reuters in both South Africa and Europe.  Ready for a new challenge outside of the financial markets, she relocated to Cape Town to pursue her passion for art, launching StateoftheART online in 2010, and opening a physical gallery in the city centre in March 2013.

“The key to selling art today is to make buying and collecting art accessible and fun. One of the major differentiators between StateoftheART and a traditional brick-and-mortar gallery is our accessibility: we produce high quality content on social media platforms, including the StateoftheART Gallery film channel on YouTube. And our online e-commerce platform offers art lovers worldwide access to an exclusive collection of exceptional original art."

StateoftheART works with early and mid career artists residing in South Africa. Whilst the majority of these artists hold degrees in fine arts from good universities, others have no formal training at all. StateoftheART gives these artists a foot in the door and provides a means for talented artists to gain exposure and sell their work, as well as giving art enthusiasts an opportunity to acquire original contemporary art at an affordable price. The majority of the proceeds from a sale are given to the artist who created the work, so when you buy art from StateoftheART you’re directly supporting the artists.

StateoftheART is South Africa's foremost 'bricks & clicks' art gallery:  we will continue to develop our innovative contemporary art platform and to promote young, upcoming and previously unrecognised artists from around the country to the growing number of buyers worldwide investing in South African art. Our investment in the annual StateoftheART Gallery Award bears testament to this ambition.
