Award 2020 Postponement Announcement

After careful consideration, and based on the feedback from applicants to the StateoftheART Gallery Award 2020, we have taken the difficult decision to roll this year's Award into 2021. Regrettably, the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown has had a significant impact on applications, resulting in a delay in the completion and submission of artworks.

The intent of the Award has always been to provide emerging artists with a platform from which to launch their career. It is clear that the pandemic has impacted negatively on the accessibility of the Award opportunity to emerging artists through logistical challenges and access to materials, data and computers.

For this reason we have decided to roll over the 2020 Award, including the prize money, into 2021 and remove the age limit.

The 2020 Award theme of On The Brink: Visualising Climate Change will be carried over to next year’s competition. All eligible submissions received to date will be invited to resubmit in the 2021 competition. Artists will be contacted individually with more information.

We tried hard to keep the award going this year to support the art community, but it was not to be. I am confident we will be able host the StateoftheART Gallery Award in 2021, and that the R40 000 cash prize will encourage all artists to keep creating for the next competition.

Stay safe.
Jennifer Reynolds.
