The blank walls inside art galleries intrigue me. Not only because they stand behind humbly to show off art works on display. More profoundly, they form the connection between spaces. Like punctuation marks, they have the authority to say here I begin, there I end. Ceiling, wall and floor articulate a harmonious, aesthetic and functional relationship within the interior.
In this series, I use architectural interiors combined with exterior street scenes as prism through which a dialogue between animate and inanimate structures become audible, or rather visible; or more of a synaesthetic experience of three-dimensional space.
For this exploration I have superimposed the interiors of the aesthetic interiors of art museums, the Zeitz MOCAA and the San Francisco MOMA with a street in a working class neighbourhood of the historical Bo-Kaap, Cape Town.
