Artist Description

Old age is an uncontrollable process. Death is at its peak around this time, as the end draws near. Old familiar widowed women are not only subordinate because of their former place in patriarchal society, but also because they are old and reckoned inept. It is easier to reject them from society than to accept their presence. In depicting these women in an unflattering manner they are regarded as rejected, yet the copious amount of detail represented in each, possess a sense of caring touch, a comforting act.
The chosen medium for these artworks comprise of pencil, acrylic paint, water-based inks, Indian ink and wax on canvas fabric. The pencil component creates a more detailed process. The acrylic paint and water-based inks attributes to a layered texture enhancing distortion and dilapidation through the process of monotype. The Indian ink is reminiscent of movement this in turn illustrates the flight of the souls. The wax forms part of the disintegration process as it imitates skin and fabric.
