Artist Description

The title of this painting was inspired by the song 'I wear your dress' by Anais Mitchell. My grandparents passed away recently and I have been haunted by the integration between our memories and reality, sadness and nostalgia. Some things we know have happened- some things we have photographic proof of yet others have faded and we weren't even present at the time. memories can't be pinned down. They get rewritten and reinterpreted. We have objects like clothes that seem permanent and yet they retain this ephemeral quality. It speaks to the personal relationship we have to the people who came before us. Our grandparents and great-gran parents and the legacy they leave. In my case the mothers who came before me and are a part of me.
